San Diego Self-Tape

Helping actors create their own self-tape studios and empowering them to embrace auditioning remotely is one of my biggest passions.

I have been teaching self-tape technique at San Diego State University and San Diego Musical Theatre. I also love working with actors in the moment– coaching their auditions, being their reader, and recording them in their best light (literally!) so they can book a callback or job. I can help you by giving you either the tools to do the work yourself at home or I can record you with my personal equipment collaboratively.

I can act as a coach and a reader in these auditions or I can simply record you and let you do your thing. I have many different packages available so you can choose what works best for you and your needs. If you’ve got your own self-tape equipment set-up, I can offer virtual coaching to help you book, no matter where you are.

Background
In March of 2020 I was wrapping up a commercial shoot for Labatt’s beer and two days later, the world shut down. Prior to the shut down, I was consistently auditioning and booking work in casting offices. I did have some self-taping experience before 2020 but now that auditions many auditions are self-taped, the stakes on quality have changed. I've had to learn how to make my tapes look professional and competitive. I took self-tape classes from my guru, LA-based Wendy Rosoff, who really taught me the ropes. I honed my own technique and style in self-taping and I'm excited to help you create your own.

"Natalie taught me to see through the eyes of a casting director and present myself in the best way possible. She is a true small screen cinematographer. Before her class, my self-tapes consisted of wrinkled backdrops, poorly lit footage, terrible audio and performances that did not lend themselves to the video format. Natalie will give you an immediate leg up on the competition and leave you more capable than you ever thought possible. Trust me, you can google a million online tutorials but if you really want to improve your performances on tape, the quality of the tapes themselves, and discover the tools and tricks necessary to make self-taping a breeze, then Natalie McClure is the only teacher you will ever need.
